Life’s Second Great Question

Another of those Why questions

Why does Greggs have free wi-fi?

If it's because the queues are so long

Employing faster staff wouldn't be wrong

The housewives, chavs and champion pie eaters

Lives wouldn't stop because of wi-fi hiatus

Its sad at how busy their lives must be

If they can't spare a minute or three

Yes, time is important when dealing in shares

It makes and breaks today's millionaires

But high financiers is not who they are

This queue of people through the door ajar

Most of these are just folk off the street

Just out in town for their high fat treat

But what's for certain without any doubt

They're queuing for pasties they want to take out

So why do they need access to wi-fi

When standing in line for piping hot pies

Standing, fidgeting, giving a screen a quick look

Updating their status on Twitter or Facebook

"I'm queuing in Greggs for a chicken bake"

"Two doughnuts, a cookie and a piece of cake"

The queue shuffles forward, they move to the head

Their mouths salivating, waiting to be fed

Then out of the shop clutching their paper bag

Sit down on a bench and light another fag

They eat their choice of flaky delectation

With crumbs down their front from mastication

All of this takes just a minute or two

Just two minutes of their life in a fast food queue

I know that the world demands to be connected

But surely their life events won't be affected

I understand all this but the question it begs

Why is there free wi-fi when queuing at Greggs?
