A Single To Rwanda

Poem about the mad-cap UK Government policy to send immigrants to Rwanda

In the bureaucratic dance of policy waltz
the UK’s immigration, chock full of faults
the latest policy is doing the rounds
in the blue corner, costing millions of pounds
the undisputed champion of spin
with a battered body and fuck all wins
the skinny guy, the gammons friend
whose political career nears its end
it’s Rishi Sunak and his small boats policy
flicking the v’s at the UK democracy
the visa maze, a labyrinth to tread
with confusing paths where aspirations are led
bled dry and and left alone to die
whilst politicians try to get planes in the sky
those dreaming of freedom, caught in the snare
The government scripting this fucking nightmare
visa quotas, rules, detention centre that floats
risking death in a flotilla of small boats
the governments red tape, a mystical masterstroke
leaves no man’s land migrants, bureaucratically choked
forms and fees, a penpushers delight
as dreams take a back seat, out of sight
squashing hopeful hearts with this satirical dance
and fucking absurd policy’s whimsical trance
